SP Factor Me Up

Until a time when uber clever computer brains develop a laptop that can dispense face cream samples I hit the mecca of make me look pretty for my (face) fix.  Recently, I needed to restock my daily SPF moisturiser and sample any other shiny new face savers on offer so I headed into department store beauty land.

I have been using the very fabulous Clarins UV Plus Protective Day Lotion SPF 30 for a number of years as my SPF daily moisture go to.  It’s sheer, so it doesn’t feel like a heavy weight SPF, clogging up my pores.  Unfortunately it was out of stock. Everywhere. Had everyone suddenly discovered this little beauty? Or was it unpopular and being discontinued?…  No one, including the lovely Clarins staff, seemed to have an answer.  I wasn’t going to leave empty handed.

What did I need?

  1. SPF of 30 (minimum) but not so sunscreeny as to be zinc. I’m not a member of the Australian Cricket team, so fluoro pink zinc down my nose and across my cheekbones just ain’t going to work for me.
  2. No colour tint. I like to add foundation over the top of moisturiser (yes old school I know).
  3. Daily moisturising benefits.

Requirements list intact I left the Clarins counter, side stepped to the next glossy counter and kept on sidestepping…

Zero to fit the bill at La Prairie, La Mer, and Estee Lauder.

I arrived at the end of the line (and aisle) to Aussie brand Ultraceauticals.  Hello my new friend Ultraceuticals Ultra Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 30+ (Hydrating).

How does it feel? Heavier than it’s French friend Clarins (Of course. Haven’t you heard French Women Don’t Get Fat?) – but not as heavy as a pure SPF sunscreen. Once on, it absorbs well into the skin, my make up glides on and holds all day.  I feel protected and moisturised. Loving.
